"The Philosophy of the Unconscious" by Eduard von Hartmann,1869
..
An unconscious will is the ground and true cause of everything that comes to be.
..
Morality, history, and the mind of genius all show the unconscious will at work.
..
The universe is composed of atoms, but the atoms are atoms of force,
not matter.
..
Although the unconscious will never errs,in evolving consciousness,
which is its opposite,it shows itself to be irrational in its creative process.
..
The philosopher, who prizes consciousness and rationality,
is the enemy of the will ; by being conscious he triumphs over will.
..
Man reaches 'old age',or philosophical maturity,
only after passing through the 'childhood' stage -in which happiness is sought-,
the stage of 'youth' -in which one counts on the rewards in heaven-,
and the stage of 'manhood' -in which man labors to build a paradise on earth-.
