The syllogism is not a form of proof which allows inference to particular statements from general statements,but a form of argument which relates inductive conclusions to present inductive generalizations.

Mathematical propositions are synthetic and empirical (not analytic and verbal),and the only necessity attaching to them is a psychological necessity.

By the methods of agreement,difference,residues,and concomitant variation inductive generalizations are possible.

Inductive inference is based on the principle of the uniformity of nature
-which is itself a principle established by inductive argument.
